Take care to know the condition of your flocks,
and pay attention to your herds.
For wealth doesn't last forever...

...
the lambs will provide your clothing,
the goats will sell for enough to buy a field,
and there will be enough goat's milk to [buy] food
for you and your household ...

Proverbs 27:23-27 (CJB)

Welcome to Chaverah Farm Nigerian Dwarf Goats

Chaverah Farm is located in a pristine setting among the rolling prairies and foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains in southern Montana.  We raise Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats and have chosen our foundation does with utmost care from reputable breeders with disease free herds.  Our goal is to raise top quality dairy goats, who are ETM and will provide sweet, delicious milk for our own family and show quality goats to sell to anyone interested.  Although we strive mostly for milk and conformation, you will also find some of our goats have moonspots, some are flashy, some are polled and some have blue eyes.  However, none of these qualities produce more milk, so they are all secondary.  We believe it is very important to both buy and sell the best goats we can to ensure longevity, good reproduction and a quality home dairy.

What "Easy to Milk" (ETM) means:
Small size goat (18-21") that is easy to handle
Gentle disposition
Co-operative nature
Friendly
Long properly placed teats for hand-milking
Soft udders and open orifices to empty the milk out quickly
Well attached udders (they last longer and hold more milk)
Minimum capacity of 3 1/2# per day at peak

Kids born on our farm are dam-raised by CAE free does until they leave the farm or turn 8-12 weeks old.  We test all goats over 6 months of age for CAE on an annual basis. We believe the natural way to raise kids is on their dam, so we make sure all animals on our property are tested before they arrive or come from clean herds. We spend time with each of our kids to ensure that they are friendly.

We spend a quality amount of time and expense on our goats so that we can offer the very best healthy goats for you, our buyers, and for us as well, since we drink our milk raw.

We are striving to offer goats that will appeal to a variety of people, but our first goal is always to provide a show-qualified Nigerian (within the correct size range and registerable) with quality milk production (3 1/2#/day minimum). Our continual intention will be to provide goats with solid dairy appearance, and when possible, with Linear Appraisal scores in the 90's.  Our ultimate dream is to have/provide goats who, in addition to the above qualifications, have pasture personality: where they could even be milked out in the middle of a pasture. =)

Look for productivity scores  and appraisals on our does, reference bucks and progeny throughout the website.

In addition to our personal support after your purchase from Chaverah Farm, you can receive great support through our fantastic groups below or to the right.

HERD DETAILS

The Chaverah Farm Nigerian Dwarf Herd consists of:
  • 2 Senior Does
  • 1 First Fresheners (FF)
  • 1 Junior Doe
  • 3 Bucks
  • 2 Wethers

Disease:
We have paid to have all of our foundation does tested for CAE, Brucellosis and TB as well as inspected for Scrapies before coming here to live with us.  Any goats too young for the test, we have the herd test results.  You can see some of the results of the tests at the links to the right.  We have the rest in physical form.  We will be testing our entire herd in Summer 2012.

We do not own any other goats on the farm and no other goats will come onto our property or join our herd unless we are confident that they are also CAE and disease negative.  We will always make this information available to you if you ask.
Conformation:  We intend to do a Linear Score on all of our animals every 2 years or so, which will give us a very good idea of their conformation.

Milk Production:  We will list the barn-weight for each doe in milk.

Pedigree:  Each goat will have a link to their pedigree of 3 or more generations, which are the most influential generations in their genetics.  Any noteworthy genetics beyond the 3 generations will also be mentioned.

Photos:  We will strive to have the following photos for each goat
  • Side shot
  • Udder shot for all does in milk
  • Side shot of Sire
  • Udder shot of Sire's Dam
  • Side and udder shot of Dam

Description:
In addition to the above information, we will always have a description of each goat along with the photo, including the height, strengths and weaknesses we see, and describing their personality.
